Controversial Academic Found Dead

Jason Arday, a British academic who resigned from Cambridge University earlier this month following plagiarism accusations, has been found dead in London. The circumstances surrounding his death are not considered suspicious, according to police.

Arday, 41, was found unresponsive in south London. His passing comes after a period of intense scrutiny. He had been accused by several academics and media outlets of plagiarizing parts of his doctoral thesis. Arday became Cambridge's youngest Black professor in 2023.

His resignation from Cambridge occurred on August 5, shortly after the university announced an investigation into the allegations. In a public letter, Arday stated his resignation was the only way to end a difficult period, emphasizing it should not be misconstrued as an admission of guilt regarding the narratives surrounding him.

Cambridge University's pro-vice-chancellor described the alleged misconduct as an "aberration" and pledged a thorough investigation. The controversy had been amplified by right-wing British newspapers and commentators, who suggested Arday had unfairly benefited from diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.
