Controversial Professor Found Dead

Jason Arday, a British academic who recently resigned from Cambridge University amid allegations of plagiarism, was found dead in London. Police stated that while the death was unexpected, it is not considered suspicious.

Arday, 41, was discovered unresponsive in south London. His death has drawn international attention, particularly following the controversy surrounding his academic work. He had been accused by several academics and media outlets of plagiarizing parts of his doctoral thesis. Arday made history in 2023 as Cambridge's youngest Black professor.

He stepped down from his position at Cambridge on August 5, just days after the university confirmed it was investigating the claims against him. In a letter shared online, Arday described his resignation as the only way to end a difficult period, asserting that the decision should not be interpreted as an admission of the accusations.

Right-wing British newspapers and commentators seized on the allegations, arguing that Arday had improperly benefited from diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Cambridge's pro-vice-chancellor had previously called the alleged offenses "aberrations" and promised a comprehensive investigation.
