Coquimbo Stadium Authorized for Concepción vs. O'Higgins Match After Pitch Inspection

After days of uncertainty, the Ester Roa Rebolledo stadium in Coquimbo has received authorization to host the upcoming football match between Deportes Concepción and O'Higgins. The decision came Thursday, following an inspection of the pitch by municipal authorities and club officials. Concepción's mayor, Héctor Muñoz, confirmed the stadium is ready for play, stating, "The field is in condition to play. If there can be some problems, it can be recovered again for next week's match, and that is what we discussed with the team."

Muñoz added that the match, scheduled for Sunday, July 26, will proceed provided the weather permits, as new rainfall is forecasted for the region. He acknowledged that challenges are common in a city like Concepción, which experiences significant rain, but emphasized that "matches have to continue, we are not in a state of catastrophe." This comes as Concepción sits 14th in the league, just one point above the relegation zone, while O'Higgins is tenth and engaged in Copa Sudamericana play.

The recent severe weather system and atmospheric river had previously caused disruptions. The match between Coquimbo Unido and Universidad de Concepción was suspended due to flooding at the Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso Stadium. Additionally, the Unión La Calera vs. Everton match was rescheduled from July 24 to July 27 because the synthetic pitch at Nicolás Chahuán Nazar Stadium was covered in mud. Stadium roofs in Chillán and Temuco sustained damage from high winds but did not affect match operations.
