Córdoba Club Expels Member Linked to Teen's Femicide

Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba has expelled Claudio Barrelier, the only individual detained in connection with the femicide of 14-year-old Agostina Vega, from its list of members. Barrelier, who used the social media handle @ClaudioGlorioso, exhibited extreme devotion to the club's colors. Investigations suggest he had links to the club's barras bravas.

The club issued an official statement on X, explaining that the decision was based on the extreme seriousness of the ongoing investigation, the profound social shock caused by the events, and the incompatibility of Barrelier's alleged actions with the club's social statute. The expulsion is without prejudice to any criminal responsibility determined by judicial authorities.

Instituto's statement emphasized that the decision was informed by the gravity of the investigated facts, the current judicial proceedings, publicly known background information, the significant social and institutional commotion, and the clear conflict between these circumstances and the club's principles, values, and objectives. The club reaffirmed its commitment to human rights, dignity, equality, democratic coexistence, and the creation of environments free from violence and discrimination.

Barrelier is accused of murdering Agostina Vega in a room he allegedly used as a meeting place or bunker in the garage of his home in the Cofico neighborhood. After several days of searching, Vega's body was found on Saturday in the Ampliación Ferreyra area. Barrelier admitted to being in the remote location, about 17 kilometers from his home, on Friday. The prosecutor escalated his legal situation on Monday, changing the charge from unlawful deprivation of liberty to femicide.
