Corío Port Terminal takes another step as APN approves Arequipa master plan

The Corío Port Terminal project in Arequipa has cleared another stage after Peru’s National Port Authority approved its master plan. The document establishes the project’s development vision, technical guidelines and planned implementation phases.

The approval came during the latest session of the National Port Authority’s board. The terminal is planned for Punta de Bombón district in Islay province, and its estimated value exceeds $800 million.

The authority described the master plan as a milestone for port infrastructure in southern Peru because it creates the basis for the project’s next stages. The initiative is intended to strengthen the country’s logistics connectivity and reinforce its role as a strategic hub for regional trade.

The terminal could also support commercial integration with Brazil through the Southern Interoceanic Highway. Designed as a multipurpose facility, it forms part of efforts to expand the operating capacity of Peru’s National Port System.

The project’s more than $800 million investment is spread across three development stages. Its main components include a terminal equipped to handle several types of cargo, including breakbulk, containers and solid bulk, expanding the port services available for international trade operations.
