Couple Arrested for Harboring Eight Indonesian Migrants

Malaysian authorities have arrested a husband and wife for allegedly sheltering eight Indonesian undocumented migrants. The couple reportedly used their home in Kampung Gong Serapat as a temporary transit point for the migrants.

Immigration officials conducted a raid at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, leading to the apprehension of the eight individuals, comprising five men and three women. Their ages ranged from 20 to 56.

According to Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain, the migrants were discovered hiding in the living room and a storeroom at the rear of the property. They were unable to produce valid travel documents for entry into Malaysia.

Initial investigations revealed that the migrants had entered Malaysia from Thailand via an illegal entry point near Sungai Kelantan. They were then transported to the couple's residence. Each migrant reportedly paid RM 4,000 for their passage into Malaysia. They stated their intention to travel to Kuala Lumpur to work as construction laborers and cleaners, with arrangements to be made by a local man known as Afiq.

The case is being investigated under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
