Couple crashes into parked car, destroying vehicle and holiday plans

A couple from Wallonia is unlikely to embark on their planned trip to Austria after their car was involved in a collision in Vleteren, Belgium. The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 9 p.m. on the Woestenstraat (N8) as the couple was traveling towards Ieper.

The driver swerved, for reasons yet unknown, and struck the rear-left side of a car parked in front of a house. The force of the impact propelled the parked vehicle several meters forward, causing it to collide with the house's facade, resulting in minor damage. The couple's car, however, was completely destroyed.

The owners of the parked car were home at the time of the accident and immediately checked on their vehicle. "My car had moved several meters," the resident testified. "Yet it is much heavier than the couple's car. We were supposed to leave for Austria with our car in 3 days, but that won't happen now. Hopefully, we will get a replacement car soon."

Both occupants of the couple's vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening. A dog that was also in the car escaped unharmed. Police conducted the necessary investigations, and the road has since been cleared.
