Couple Violently Robbed in Tacuarembó; Thieves Flee in Car Later Found Burned

A violent robbery occurred in Tacuarembó, Uruguay, targeting a 65-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman. The couple was accosted by two masked individuals as they were getting out of their car between Sarandí and Baltazar Brum streets.

One of the assailants struck the man on the head with a blunt object, causing injuries. The stolen item was a bag containing equipment for gambling games like lotteries and scratch cards, estimated to be worth around $10,000.

Following the robbery, the assailants escaped in a white vehicle. This car was later discovered abandoned and set on fire in a forested area near kilometer 391 of Route 5. The woman was unharmed, but the man required medical attention for his head wounds.

Authorities are investigating the incident, with personnel from the National Fire Department, local police, investigations department, and forensic police involved. Security camera footage captured the moment of the robbery.
