Court rejects former prosecutor's challenge to graft charges

A South Jakarta court has denied a pre-trial motion by former special crimes prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah, upholding the legality of his suspect status and detention in a money laundering case.

Presiding judge Richard Edwin Basoeki stated that the designation of Adriansyah as a suspect in the money laundering case, along with his detention, was legally sound. The court found that the Attorney General's Office possessed at least two pieces of valid evidence linking Adriansyah to the alleged crime and the flow of illicit funds.

The court also addressed Adriansyah's argument regarding "trading in influence," deeming it a matter for the main trial rather than a pre-trial review. Judges noted that the suspect designation letter covered alleged actions spanning from 2018 to 2026, encompassing periods before and after the national criminal code's effective date.

Furthermore, the court found that Adriansyah's detention met objective requirements based on the potential penalties for the alleged offenses. The judges clarified that while they do not assess the factual accuracy of Adriansyah's statements, they can review the legality of the detention order itself, which they found to be in compliance with legal provisions.
