Craiova mayor proposes minority PSD government to resolve Romania's political crisis

Lia Olguța Vasilescu, the mayor of Craiova, has proposed that a minority government led by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is the optimal solution to Romania's current political crisis. She expressed confidence that such a government could secure a majority, stating it would be formed with "parliamentarians from Romania," though she declined to name specific individuals.

Vasilescu also reflected on a past strategic error by the PSD, stating the party's biggest mistake last year was not claiming the prime minister role. She explained that at the time, there was an understanding that it was the National Liberal Party's (PNL) turn to hold the position, following a previous cycle where PSD had the premiership. This decision was based on a partnership with PNL, which Vasilescu believed would continue to function as it had in the past.

However, Vasilescu noted that the current situation differs, particularly concerning Ilie Bolojan, who she implied has become too comfortable in the prime minister role. She suggested Bolojan claimed the position based on an expectation of a four-year term, failing to recognize that the coalition that appointed him is no longer in place. Vasilescu's comments suggest a desire for the PSD to take a more assertive stance in government formation.
