Romanian PNL Conservative Platform Launches Manifesto, Criticizes Party Direction

A conservative platform has emerged within Romania's National Liberal Party (PNL), launching a manifesto that champions traditional right-wing values while acknowledging the need for political compromise in times of national crisis. The group, calling itself the Conservative Platform, defines itself as a forum for political and doctrinal debate within the PNL, dedicated to reaffirming Romanian right-wing values.

Initiators stress that their platform is not a political faction and does not seek to create a parallel leadership structure, citing the PNL's statutes that prohibit internal factions. The platform expresses concern that the PNL is at risk of distancing itself from its liberal-conservative tradition and diluting its doctrinal identity. It criticizes a political culture perceived as conformist and marginalizing of critical voices. The manifesto advocates for prioritizing Romania's interests above party interests, particularly during crises, stating that "Above the party's interest always remains Romania's interest." It calls for stable government formation, defense of the Euro-Atlantic orientation, and economic recovery to take precedence over party calculations or personal ambitions.

The manifesto laments a recent departure from these values, despite the adoption of a document called "Modernization with Roots" at the 2025 Congress, pointing to the promotion of individuals from "non-progressive" backgrounds and the marginalization of experienced members.
