Crete: Video Shows Teen Girls' Violent Brawl as Peers Film, Not Intervene

A disturbing video circulating online shows two 15-year-old girls engaged in a brutal physical altercation in Heraklion, Crete. The footage captures the minors exchanging punches, pulling each other's hair, and falling to the ground. Shockingly, numerous peers surrounding the fight are seen filming the incident with their mobile phones, with no one attempting to intervene or seek adult assistance. Police analyst Stavros Balaskas commented that such street fights are increasingly common among girls, often occurring within school grounds. He suggested that a significant portion, estimated at 70-80%, of these fights are recorded and uploaded to social media. Balaskas further noted that relationship issues, or 'girlfriends' disputes,' often lie at the root of these conflicts. Psychologist and criminologist Dr. Vana Papakitsou added that violence and delinquency are spreading and have notably affected girls in recent years, noting distinct differences in the motivations behind boys' and girls' violence. She emphasized that those who merely observe violence are complicit in it.
