His exceptional talent was recognized globally. In a 1999 poll of 100 cricket experts, Sobers was named among Wisden's Five Cricketers of the 20th Century, receiving 90 votes. Even the legendary Donald Bradman, who received 100 votes, paid a profound tribute to Sobers before his own death in 2001, stating, "He is, in my opinion, the greatest cricketer of all time."
