Croatia braces for holiday closures: Most stores and malls to shut on August 5th

Croatia is observing August 5th as a public holiday, the Day of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving and the Day of Croatian Defenders, leading to widespread closures of retail stores and shopping centers.

Major retail chains, including Kaufland, Plodine, and Eurospin, have announced that all their branches will be closed for the entire day. Lidl has advised customers to check their website for specific opening hours, as their stores will operate under modified schedules. Specialized retailers such as Pevex, Bauhaus, and Lesnina, along with the Bipa drugstore chain, will also shut their doors.

Some retailers are adopting a more flexible approach. Konzum will open a portion of its stores, mostly operating on reduced Sunday hours, typically closing by 1 or 2 PM. Smaller neighborhood Konzum stores are expected to remain closed. Spar and Studenac will also have varying operating hours depending on the location, urging customers to verify beforehand. Tommy will close most of its branches, with exceptions for three locations in tourist areas: Ston and two in Zadar.

While most shops will be closed, shopping centers are expected to remain partially accessible. Restaurants, cinemas, and other entertainment facilities within these centers will likely operate according to regular or adjusted holiday schedules. Shoppers are advised to consult the official websites of individual shopping centers for detailed information on which amenities will be available.
