Croatia Swelters Under Heatwave, Cooler Weather Expected Next Week

Croatia is bracing for a severe heatwave on Thursday, prompting red weather alerts for the Rijeka, Split, and Dubrovnik regions. Temperatures are expected to soar, reaching as high as 37 degrees Celsius in Dalmatia, accompanied by strong winds, including potentially stormy gusts of bora along the coast. Knin is under a yellow alert for extreme heat, while Rijeka and Dubrovnik also face yellow warnings for possible stormy bora winds.

The heatwave is forecast to persist for several more days, with sunny and hot conditions expected to continue across the country. Coastal areas will experience very warm nights, and winds will shift from bora to northwesterly and southwesterly breezes during the day. By Sunday, moderate jugo winds are anticipated.

However, a notable shift in weather is predicted for the beginning of next week. Current forecasts suggest a significant drop in temperatures, with rain possible, starting in the northern Adriatic region around Monday, August 17. Zagreb is expected to see cooler temperatures slightly later. This change offers a potential respite from the intense heat gripping the nation.
