Cross River State Trains 4,500 Youths in Diverse Skills

Cross River State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has reaffirmed his administration's dedication to empowering the youth, promising continued investment in skills acquisition and economic advancement opportunities. The governor, represented by the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvester Agabi, spoke at a youth training and empowerment program that equipped 4,500 young individuals with vocational and emerging skills.

Governor Otu highlighted the significant progress made by his administration in its first three years, acknowledging that further development is needed across the state. He assured citizens that areas yet to receive government interventions would be reached as development initiatives continue to spread. The governor stressed the crucial role of young people as stakeholders in Cross River's development, pledging to strengthen government partnerships with them and generate more avenues for skill acquisition, self-reliance, and economic contribution.

The governor commended the organizers for training 4,500 youths, deeming the initiative a vital investment in the state's future. He also expressed gratitude to government officials and agencies involved, particularly the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development and Mobilisation, Dr. Julius Kijuo, for orchestrating the program. "Today, we have about 4,500 youths trained in different skills. That is wonderful, and we intend to do more," Governor Otu stated, affirming his administration's continued support for initiatives that prepare young people for productive engagement.

The training curriculum encompassed a wide range of subjects, including digital marketing, entrepreneurship, welding, fabrication, electrical installation, robotics, drone technology, and artificial intelligence. These programs aim to provide beneficiaries with practical competencies applicable to both traditional trades and rapidly evolving sectors. Dr. Kijuo emphasized that the program's design focuses on equipping young people with skills for sustainable livelihoods, rather than temporary aid, noting that access to such opportunities can transform the prospects of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Drawing from personal experience, Dr. Kijuo acknowledged the struggles many young people face with poverty and limited opportunities. He highlighted that this training demonstrates that their circumstances do not have to dictate their future. He thanked Governor Otu and his wife for their support of youth-focused initiatives, stating that the administration has invested in skills, dignity, and opportunities essential for young people to build sustainable futures. Dr. Kijuo urged the beneficiaries to utilize their newly acquired skills productively, believing their competencies can drive entrepreneurship and employment.
