Cross-Strait Drug Ring Busted: 10 Arrested, Millions in Narcotics Seized

Taiwanese authorities have dismantled a cross-strait drug trafficking operation, arresting 10 suspects allegedly linked to the notorious Bamboo Union triad. The group is accused of smuggling narcotics from mainland Taiwan to the Matsu Islands, a strategic archipelago administered by Taiwan.

The investigation, spanning several months, involved coordinated efforts between the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Fujian Lienchiang District Prosecutors Office. Authorities conducted two major raids in March and June, targeting locations in Taichung, Taoyuan, and the Matsu Islands themselves. These operations led to the apprehension of key figures, including 52-year-old suspects surnamed Huang and Pan, who are believed to be ringleaders.

During the raids, law enforcement seized a significant quantity of drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine, and etonitazene. Notably, the seized etonitazene, in liquid and vape forms, could be diluted to produce approximately 5,700 vape cartridges, with an estimated market value of NT$11.4 million. Combined with other confiscated narcotics, the total street value of the seized substances is close to NT$12 million.

Some of the arrested individuals, including Pan and three others, were ordered detained by the court pending further investigation. Huang was released on bail of NT$200,000. The suspects face charges related to organized crime and drug trafficking.
