CSU Calls for Arms Deal with Kyiv to Boost German Drone Tech

The CSU party group in Bavaria is advocating for a formal arms agreement with Kyiv, aiming to leverage Ukrainian drone technology to enhance the German military's capabilities.

CSU chairman Alexander Hoffmann expressed the party's view that Germany requires a "support dividend" from Ukraine. He emphasized that while Germany will continue its aid "under all circumstances," Ukraine has developed "truly outstanding capabilities" in drones, drone defense, and cruise missiles.

Hoffmann is pushing for a binding reciprocal benefit for the German armed forces. "We are saying: Germany must participate in these arms innovations to strengthen its own defense and deterrence capability," he stated. "Therefore, we are calling for an intergovernmental agreement with Kyiv in which the Ukrainian side commits to sharing its technological capabilities with us."

The CSU politician added, "If necessary, we must be able to ramp up drone production very quickly." To achieve this, they want to utilize know-how that already exists in Ukraine but which the country "naturally guards a bit, because it is militarily strategic." "Therefore, we want to obligate Ukraine to let us participate so that we can become stronger together."
