Cuban cyclist Marlies Mejías claims gold in Santo Domingo Games road race

Cuban cyclist Marlies Mejías secured the gold medal in the women's road race at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. The 32-year-old athlete triumphed in the demanding 123.8-kilometer race, held around the capital city's Malecon, crossing the finish line in 3 hours, 10 minutes, and 32 seconds.

Mejías' victory placed her ahead of Teniel Campbell of Trinidad and Tobago, who took silver, and Mexico's Yaneli Acevedo, who earned the bronze medal. This win adds to Mejías' impressive performance at the games, as it is her second gold medal. She had previously dominated the women's time trial event.

"It is a great honor for me to be able to win this gold medal again here in Dominicana. The competition was very demanding, and the group of cyclists was of great quality," Mejías stated after her victory. She remained with the main group for much of the race before taking control with a select group of about 18 riders. This leading pack eventually caught up to Dominican rider María Mirabal, who had led the race solo in the early stages.

The men's road cycling competition is scheduled for the following day, featuring a longer course of 169.5 kilometers.
