Customs destroys seized goods worth over $10,000 in Karimun

The Tanjung Balai Karimun Customs office has destroyed a significant cache of seized goods, with a total value reaching Rp 155.78 million (approximately $10,300 USD). The destruction took place in Moro District, Karimun Regency, on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

These items, declared as state property following customs and excise seizures, were rendered unusable through methods including crushing, burning, and cutting. This process ensures that the confiscated goods cannot be reintroduced into the market or used by the public.

Tri Wahyudi, Head of Tanjung Balai Karimun Customs, stated that the destruction is a crucial step in resolving cases involving seized goods that have legally met the criteria for confiscation. "This destruction is part of our duty to ensure that seized goods do not return to the community for use or circulation," he explained.

The total value of the destroyed goods amounted to Rp 155.78 million, with an estimated potential state loss of Rp 125 million prevented by these seizures. The destruction was carried out with the assistance of third parties and observed by representatives from various relevant agencies, including local government officials, the prosecutor's office, police, and military.

Wahyudi emphasized the commitment of the Customs agency to its role as a "community protector." He stressed the importance of ensuring that goods deemed unfit for circulation are definitively removed from public access. "This destruction serves as a measure to provide protection and create certainty in law enforcement," he added.
