CWM Hospital's future model remains under review

Suva, Fiji – The Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWM Hospital) is not currently slated for a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement, according to the Acting Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr. Luisa Cikamatana. She confirmed that there are no immediate plans to implement a model similar to the Health Care Fiji PPP involving Aspen Medical and the government at CWM Hospital. Dr. Cikamatana stated that the government will continue to evaluate the results of its existing partnership with Aspen Medical. This assessment will inform decisions about whether similar arrangements could be beneficial for other healthcare facilities in the future. The experience gained from the current PPP is expected to provide valuable insights into how such collaborations can enhance healthcare delivery, improve operational efficiency, and address the specific needs of health facilities where appropriate. While a PPP model is not being considered for CWM Hospital at this stage, Dr. Cikamatana indicated that the lessons derived from the Aspen Medical partnership could serve as a guide for future strategic decisions regarding healthcare delivery models across the nation.
