Cyber Hankuk University hosts online colloquium on English assessment and vocabulary

Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (CUFS) is set to host an online colloquium that will delve into the latest trends in English assessment and vocabulary research. Scheduled for August 8, the event will bring together distinguished academics from the United States to share their expertise with a global audience.

The colloquium will feature two prominent speakers: Professor Paula Winke from Michigan State University and Professor Scott Jarvis from Northern Arizona University. Professor Winke, a former editor of the journal 『Language Testing』, will lead the first session. Her presentation, titled 'Using Qualitative Research Methods to Better Understand English Language Proficiency Testing,' will focus on how qualitative research can provide deeper insights into the evaluation of English language proficiency.

Following Professor Winke's session, Professor Jarvis, who also serves as an editor for the journal 『Language Learning』, will present on 'The Predictability and Variability of Lexical Diversity.' His talk will explore the patterns and fluctuations in vocabulary use among language learners, sharing key findings from his research. The event aims to foster a deeper understanding of these critical areas within English linguistics and education.

This colloquium will be conducted online via ZOOM, making it accessible to anyone interested in English education and linguistics. Pre-registration is required through an online form, and participants will receive the ZOOM access link via text message upon completion.
