Cycling: Felix Gall wins Tour of Burgos

Austrian cyclist Felix Gall has achieved a significant victory at the Tour of Burgos, successfully defending his lead on the final stage to the Lagunas de Neila. This win serves as an ideal test run for the upcoming Vuelta a España, marking Gall's first triumph at the second-tier UCI ProSeries level.

The 28-year-old rider showcased his climbing prowess throughout the five-day tour in northern Spain. On the concluding stage, he finished third, just three seconds behind Italian Giulio Pellizzari and Scottish rider Oscar Onley. However, his strong performance in the overall classification allowed him to maintain a narrow lead, finishing five seconds ahead of Onley and twelve seconds ahead of Italian Giulio Ciccone.

This victory follows Gall's impressive performance earlier in the year, including a stage win at the 2023 Tour de France and a second-place overall finish at the Giro d'Italia behind Jonas Vingegaard. His consistent results, including five second-place stage finishes at the Giro, demonstrate his growing strength in Grand Tour racing.

With four professional wins now to his name, Gall is heading into the Vuelta a España with considerable confidence. While acknowledging the presence of top contenders like Tadej Pogacar, Gall is expected to be a formidable competitor, particularly given that some rivals may not be in peak form following the Tour de France, and others, like four-time winner Primoz Roglic, might be affected by recent training accidents.
