The Greek Women's National Volleyball team began their EuroVolley 2026 campaign with a defeat, falling 3-1 to host nation Czechia. Despite a strong effort to turn the match around, Greece ultimately succumbed to the Czech team's performance in the final sets.

The Greek Women's National Volleyball team did not manage to start their EuroVolley 2026 campaign with a win, suffering a 3-1 set defeat against host Czechia.

Greece started the match nervously, struggling with errors and falling behind significantly in the first set. Czechia capitalized on these mistakes, building a substantial lead and ultimately winning the first set 25-14. The Greek team showed signs of recovery in the second set, with Anthouli providing key offensive and blocking contributions. Greece took an early lead and, despite a late surge from Czechia, managed to hold on for a 25-23 victory, leveling the match.

The team of Apostolos Oikonomou entered the game nervously and found themselves behind early in the score.

However, the momentum shifted back to the Czechs in the third set. They reasserted control, dictating the pace of the game. Greece found themselves chasing the score and were unable to close the gap, with Czechia taking the set 25-15 to regain the overall lead.

With Anthouli providing solutions in attack and at the block, Greece started strongly and took an early lead.

The fourth set was more competitive, with both teams exchanging points for much of the game. Greece fought to stay in contention, but Czechia proved stronger in the crucial moments, securing the set 25-20 and clinching the match victory. The final set scores were 25-14, 23-25, 25-15, and 25-20. Greece will now look to secure their first win of the tournament when they face Ukraine on Saturday at 17:00.
