Da Lat orders man to restore stream bank demolished for illegal construction

Authorities in Da Lat, Vietnam, have demanded that Dinh Minh Hung immediately restore the original state of the stream bank along Pham Hong Thai stream. The stream bank is located within the Pham Hong Thai residential area in Xuan Huong ward.

According to the Da Lat Investment and Construction Project Management Board, Hung illegally demolished the stream bank and other related structures. He allegedly did this to expand a construction project beyond the scope of his permit. The project management board had previously alerted the ward's People's Committee on May 13 to address the encroachment on state property.

The construction permit for Hung's bridge over the stream was for a 5m x 10m area. While the permitted bridge construction is complete, Hung reportedly continued to expand the project. Approximately 20 meters of the stone and reinforced concrete railings and bank protection were dismantled. Additionally, the stream banks were excavated to lay foundations and install reinforcement for the unauthorized expansion.

Officials stated that the expanded construction and related work lack the necessary permits. They warned that the illegal demolition not only damages state property but also negatively affects construction order in the area. With Da Lat entering its rainy season, the damage to the stream bank and railings increases the risk of safety hazards for residents and impacts local infrastructure. Hung and the construction unit's representative, Ho Dinh Luan, have been ordered to restore the demolished sections to their initial condition.
