Da Nang: Photo of a woman found in the grave of an unidentified martyr

Authorities in Da Nang, Vietnam, have discovered a photograph of a woman while excavating the grave of an unidentified martyr at the Tam Phuoc Martyrs' Cemetery. The excavation was part of an effort to collect biological samples for DNA testing to determine the identities of the fallen soldiers.

The discovery was made at the grave marked with identification number 48-070-00258. Alongside the photograph, personal items including a wallet and money were found with the remains. These personal effects are considered valuable clues that could aid in the ongoing process of verifying soldier identities and locating their families.

The military command of Da Nang has appealed to the public, including veterans, comrades, and relatives of martyrs, for any information regarding the woman in the photo or the specific grave. Such details could provide crucial leads for identifying the martyr and potentially reuniting their story with their kin.

The Tam Phuoc cemetery, located in Tay Ho commune, is one of three martyrs' cemeteries in the area, housing a total of 981 graves. Of these, 580 remain unidentified. So far, 279 graves have been excavated, yielding 229 biological samples for DNA analysis, a process aimed at gradually building a database to confirm the identities of the fallen.
