Daegu police save 32 from heatstroke in one month

Daegu police have rescued 32 citizens suffering from heat-related illnesses over the past month, as the city endures temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The rescues occurred between July 6 and August 5 amid a severe heatwave.

Recent incidents highlight the critical nature of these interventions. On August 2, a 90-year-old woman showing signs of heatstroke was found near a utility pole on Sincheon-daero. Her family had reported her missing due to dementia. Police provided initial cooling measures before handing her over to her guardians.

On August 3, during a period of extreme heat with temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius, officers rescued a 70-year-old elderly man collecting recyclables. He was found disoriented and complaining of dizziness. Police escorted him to a station for initial treatment, including providing iced water and snacks, and then personally pushed his cart home.

Other rescues include a 70-year-old man found collapsed near the Dalseong wetland embankment and a 70-year-old man suffering from dehydration and paralysis in Songhyeon Park. Police are urging residents to suspend strenuous outdoor activities, especially during the peak heat hours, and are committed to prioritizing the safety and well-being of citizens during this heat emergency.
