Dangerous weather warning to cover all of Lithuania as strong winds sweep the country

Stormy weather is set to spread across Lithuania, with strong winds expected to affect the entire country and heavy rain forecast for Klaipėda County.

The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service said wind warnings would begin at 12:30 a.m. in Tauragė, Šiauliai, Telšiai and Klaipėda counties. Overnight, southwesterly gusts along the coast are expected to reach 15-17 meters per second. During the day, gusts in northwestern Lithuania could reach 15-18 meters per second.

The warning will later extend nationwide, remaining in force from 9:30 p.m. Friday until 9 p.m. Saturday. Winds from the southwest and west, shifting to the northwest, are expected to reach 15-20 meters per second in gusts. The service advised residents to remove or secure objects from balconies and yards and avoid parking cars near trees.

Klaipėda County will also face heavy rain, with a separate warning in effect from 9 p.m. Friday until 9 p.m. Saturday. The service urged drivers to reduce speed and increase following distances because heavy rain can impair visibility and make roads slippery. Rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected through the weekend, with temperatures ranging from 9 to 21 degrees Celsius.
