Rimi logistics center ranks among the Baltic region’s top five with BREEAM Excellent rating

A new Rimi Lietuva logistics center near Elektrėnai has entered the Baltic region’s top five among newly built industrial facilities assessed under BREEAM New Construction. Developed by Darnu Group, the center received an Excellent rating, described by the assessor as the highest level yet achieved for new industrial buildings in the Baltic states.

Projects must score at least 70% of available BREEAM points and meet mandatory requirements to reach the Excellent level. The center performed particularly well in energy, employee health and well-being, waste, water and project management.

One distinctive feature separates workers from heavy vehicles. Employees use a dedicated bridge over the area where trucks maneuver, keeping pedestrian and truck flows apart. The site also includes landscaping, flowering meadows and spaces for rest. These features contribute not only to the appearance of the property but also to the BREEAM assessment of employee health and well-being.

We set high sustainability goals for this project so that the selected solutions would bring concrete economic benefits and reduce the building’s energy and water needs.

The certification covered the construction process as well as the finished building. Requirements applied to material compliance, construction waste, pollution prevention, system testing and control of project changes. The assessor said the final result depended on carrying the planned measures through consistently at the construction site.

The center’s reported efficiency figures include primary energy consumption about 66% below that of a basic building meeting minimum energy-performance requirements. Sanitation water use is about 53% lower than the BREEAM baseline, while a rooftop solar plant is expected to reduce annual building CO2 emissions by 13%.

In the Baltic states, this is the highest BREEAM rating awarded so far to industrial buildings, and the Rimi logistics center ranks among the five highest-rated BREEAM New Construction buildings of this type in the region.
