Danish champions Herning Blue Fox start season with dominant 7-1 victory

The Herning Blue Fox kicked off their title defense in the Metal Ligaen with an emphatic 7-1 triumph over Esbjerg Energy on Friday. The Danish champions controlled the game from the outset, establishing an early 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from American newcomer Kevin O'Neil and Finland's Oliver Kiljunen.

The second period saw Herning extend their dominance. Canadian import Jared Dmytriw, a summer acquisition, scored his first goal for the club, followed by Kiljunen's second of the night, pushing the score to 4-0. Anton Linde then added another goal before Philip Schultz found the net against his former team, Esbjerg, intensifying the pressure on the visitors.

Despite a late consolation goal from Nicolas Werbik, which made it 6-1, Herning sealed their convincing victory with a seventh goal from Linde. The win marks a dream start for the defending champions as they begin their quest to retain the title.

In other league action, Aalborg Pirates secured a tight 4-3 win against Frederikshavn White Hawks. Aalborg had built a 3-0 lead, but Frederikshavn fought back. Meanwhile, Odense Bulldogs edged out Sønderjyske with a 2-1 victory.
