Danish school asks media to stay away after terrorism plot charges

Hadsten School is requesting that the press and public refrain from approaching the campus as students return for their first day of school on August 10. This comes after three boys were charged with attempting to plan an attack on the school.

Thomas Born Smidt, Director of Children and Culture for Favrskov Municipality, stated, "We believe we will get the most out of creating a normal first day of school. For the same reason, we urge the press to stay away." He emphasized that the police will not be present, as there is no longer any threat and it is safe to attend the school.

School officials, municipal representatives, and police met to discuss the handling of the situation. The consensus was to proceed with a school day that is as normal as possible. Despite the reassurance, Smidt acknowledged a "tense atmosphere" and that "several are affected" among staff and the school board.

The motive behind the attack plans remains unclear, with Smidt describing it as a "puzzle that doesn't add up." The three boys, aged 15 and 16, were charged Monday with attempting to harm or kill individuals at the school through online platforms. Favrskov Municipality confirmed that the arrested individuals do not reside in the municipality and that the school's emergency plan has been activated.
