Danjuma Foundation provides specialist eye care for 50 children in Taraba

Fifty children from Murbai in Taraba State are receiving specialist eye care after the T.Y. Danjuma Foundation responded to appeals about their conditions.

The children were taken to the T.Y. Danjuma Specialist Eye Hospital in Takum. Specialist doctors will assess each child to determine the nature and severity of the eye problems before deciding on appropriate treatment.

The foundation is covering medical treatment, transportation, feeding and accommodation throughout the exercise. Residents and advocates who helped draw attention to the children’s plight welcomed the response and credited those who publicized the situation with helping bring it to the foundation’s attention.

The case also highlights the difficulties rural communities face in accessing specialist healthcare, particularly services that primary healthcare facilities may not provide. For the affected families, the intervention offers their children access to diagnosis and treatment.
