DAP fields Malay, new faces for Tiram and Johor Jaya state seats

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has announced two new faces, Nor Zulaila Abd. Ghani and Lee Wern Yiing, as its candidates for the upcoming state elections in Tiram and Johor Jaya respectively. The announcement was made by DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook at a candidate announcement event in Plentong, Johor Bahru.

Nor Zulaila, 38, brings over 12 years of experience in public service, including a stint as a Kajang Municipal Councillor since 2018 and as a special secretary to a Deputy Minister. She expressed her commitment to championing the voices of the grassroots and advocating for better policies. "I urge the PH machinery, let's campaign with integrity, offer hope and mature politics, not division between races," she stated.

Lee Wern Yiing, 30, who also serves as the Johor Chief of the DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy), thanked the party leadership for the opportunity. She plans to leverage her experience working with the incumbent for Johor Jaya, Liow Cai Tung, to serve the constituents if given the mandate. "I will continue that administrative legacy to bring the voices of the residents in this state constituency to continue serving Johor Jaya. I ask for your support," she said.

The selection of these new candidates signals DAP's strategy for the upcoming elections, focusing on fresh representation and experienced individuals to connect with voters in the Johor state constituencies. The party aims to promote a campaign centered on hope and mature politics, contrasting with divisive tactics.
