Dare: Tinubu Took Leave to ‘Refuel’ After Months of State Duties

President Bola Tinubu has gone on a three-week working leave, but presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare said the Nigerian leader would not step away from government business. The break, he said, would allow Tinubu to “refuel” after months of demanding state duties.

Dare spoke to journalists in Abuja after seeing Tinubu off at the presidential wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Sunday. He said the president had spent the previous six or seven months dealing with security, the economy and other decisions tied to running the country.

The President has had several months, six, seven months, of being engaged with state matters. We’ve seen monumental changes, monumental decisions taken with our security, with our economy and so many other things as pertains to the running of the affairs of this country.

The timing also reflects the political calendar. Dare said the campaign season for the 2027 elections had begun and would bring several months of intense political activity, even as governance continued.

He said Tinubu would remain engaged with state matters every day while on leave. Ministers, service chiefs and other officials handling key national decisions would continue to brief him, Dare said.
