Darije Kalezic reveals reasons for returning to coach PSM Makassar in Liga 1 2026/2027

Coach Darije Kalezic is set to return to PSM Makassar for the 2026/2027 Liga 1 season, driven by a desire to recapture the "sweet memories" and strong bond he forged with the club. The Bosnian and Herzegovinian coach expressed that he did not want to miss the opportunity to lead the "Juku Eja" again.

Kalezic highlighted that his decision is rooted in the deep connection he felt with the team's identity and its supporters during his previous stint in 2019. "I still vividly remember the first time I managed PSM, when the team had a very strong and clear identity. The supporters were also satisfied and proud when they could see the players' style of play on the field, regardless of the final result," Kalezic stated.

The coach also fondly recalled the celebrations following PSM Makassar's victory in the 2019 Indonesia Cup. This triumph, achieved after defeating Persija Jakarta in the final, was a significant moment that contributed to his motivation to return. "Moments of togetherness and joy while celebrating the victory with all the staff, medical team, and players on the field are beautiful memories that give me the energy and confidence to return to coach PSM," he said.

During his previous tenure, Kalezic managed PSM Makassar for 53 matches across various competitions, averaging 1.49 points per game. While the team finished 12th in the 2019 Liga 1 Indonesia season, the Indonesia Cup victory remains a notable achievement that Kalezic hopes to replicate.
