Daughter of Russian general possibly injured in Moscow restaurant blast

An explosion tore through the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant in central Moscow, claiming five lives and injuring at least 21 people, as reported by Russian authorities and media. The incident has prompted a terrorism investigation by the Russian Investigative Committee.

Independent Russian publication Verstka cited a source close to the restaurant's management, suggesting that 25-year-old Maria Ceaiko, daughter of General Aleksandr Ceaiko, commander of Russia's Aerospace Forces, might be among the injured. This information, based on preliminary lists of injured individuals published by Russian channels REN TV and 112, has not been officially confirmed by Russian authorities. The woman identified in these lists, 'Maria P.', shares a birthdate and address consistent with Maria Ceaiko, and reportedly also uses the surname Peredrii.

Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that an explosive device, possibly concealed within a gift box, was detonated remotely. Investigators are considering the possibility that the woman who delivered the package may not have been aware of its contents. While authorities have not officially identified a target, several Russian media outlets have reported that the restaurant was hosting a private party celebrating General Aleksandr Ceaiko's 55th birthday, citing images with the inscription 'Aleksandr 55' displayed at the venue. The exact motive and target of the explosion remain unclear.
