Davidovich Fokina faces Auger-Aliassime in Wimbledon quarterfinals after strong run

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is through to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time, nine years after winning the junior title at the All England Club. The Spaniard, who has been the sole survivor of the Spanish contingent in London, faces a significant challenge in his next match against world No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Davidovich Fokina has been steadily improving since arriving in London. He recently captured his first professional title on grass in Mallorca, a significant achievement that has helped shed the 'loser' image many attributed to him after a string of five final losses. He endured a tough period in 2025, reaching four finals but falling short in each, and previously had a strong showing at the 2024 Monte Carlo Masters, where he defeated Novak Djokovic but lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Recovering from an abdominal injury that sidelined him for part of the clay-court season, Davidovich Fokina has found his best form. He has been working with new coach Pepo Clavet since shortly before the grass season began, a partnership that has yielded positive results, including quarterfinal appearances in Queens and the title in Mallorca. He is now on the verge of matching his best Grand Slam performance, the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in 2021.

He anticipates a tough match against Auger-Aliassime, whom he described as being in his best form. "With Felix, we've had many battles, and this will be another. He's the fourth or fifth in the world and is at his best level right now. I'll try my best and go for the match, but it's going to be a battle," he stated. Davidovich Fokina has reached this stage without dropping a set, defeating Juan Manuel Cerúndolo and two Hungarian players, Fabian Marozsan and Marton Fucsovics.
