Davutoğlu quits politics, dissolves Gelecek Party

Ahmet Davutoğlu, the leader of Turkey's Gelecek Party, has announced his departure from party politics and the dissolution of his party. The decision marks a significant shift for the former Prime Minister, who founded the Gelecek Party in 2019.

In a statement shared on his social media account, Davutoğlu explained that the decision was made after consultations with the party's authorized bodies and its members. He stated that the move was intended to avoid becoming part of the "polluted political climate" in Turkey.

"Following consultations with our party's authorized bodies and the comrades who have carried the Gelecek Party to this day, we have decided to withdraw from party politics and end the political activities of the Gelecek Party, in order to not be a part of the polluted political climate," Davutoğlu wrote in his announcement.

The dissolution of the Gelecek Party signifies the end of Davutoğlu's direct involvement in electoral politics, at least for the time being. The party had participated in previous elections but struggled to gain significant traction in the Turkish political landscape.
