DAX 40 dips 0.29% but holds above 26,000 points

Frankfurt's DAX 40 index dipped 0.29% on Wednesday, closing at 26,126.30 points. This marks a slight retreat after the index surpassed the 26,000-point threshold for the first time on Monday. The MDAX, representing mid-cap companies, fell 0.41% to 32,426.33 points, while the technology-focused TecDAX saw a larger drop of 0.89%, ending at 3,946.73 points.

Recent optimistic statements from Washington had previously driven down oil prices, which in turn boosted the DAX 40. However, oil prices saw a slight increase on Wednesday, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) opening up 0.36% to $76.04 per barrel. This shift was attributed to Houthi rebels in Yemen, reportedly backed by Iran, claiming they had attacked a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea.

On a more positive note, S&P's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the eurozone's services sector exceeded analyst expectations, reaching 52 points and marking an eight-month high. Investors also reacted favorably to the first-half results of chemical company Beiersdorf and medical firm Fresenius, with both stocks rising significantly. Beiersdorf shares climbed 4.94% to 82.06 euros, and Fresenius shares increased by the same percentage to 46.55 euros.

Other notable stock movements included chemical giant Bayer, which rose 2.49% to 49.45 euros. Conversely, chip manufacturer Infineon Technologies experienced a notable decline, falling 5.30% to 60.34 euros. Logistics company DHL saw its shares drop 3.57% to 55.66 euros, and tire maker Continental decreased by 3.48% to 68.76 euros.
