DEA praises Dominican operation that seized 1,360 cocaine packages

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Caribbean Division has commended the Dominican Republic's National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) and other national authorities for a significant anti-narcotics operation. The successful bust resulted in the seizure of 1,360 packages of suspected cocaine and 30 blocks of suspected marijuana.

The DEA shared details of the operation on its Instagram account, showcasing videos of the confiscated drugs and the extensive deployment involved. The multi-faceted operation spanned over 15 hours and utilized air, sea, and land assets to target transnational criminal organizations operating in the Caribbean region.

This success is attributed to the robust coordination among various Dominican institutions, including the DNCD, the Dominican Navy, the Dominican Air Force, the Public Ministry, and state intelligence agencies. International support was provided by JIATF-S, the DEA, and the Colombian Air Force.

Michael Mayer, the DEA's Special Agent in Charge for the Caribbean Division, emphasized the strengthened relationship between the DEA and the Dominican government. "Every kilogram of drugs we prevent from reaching our communities represents lives we can protect," Mayer stated. "I congratulate the DNCD and all our partners for their bravery, professionalism, and commitment. The relationship between the DEA and the Government of the Dominican Republic is stronger than ever. We will continue shoulder to shoulder, united by a common mission: to protect our peoples and bring drug traffickers to justice." The DEA characterized the operation as a clear demonstration of the commitment and coordination between the Dominican Republic and the United States in their shared fight against drug trafficking in the Caribbean, concluding with the slogan, "Two nations. One mission. A safer Caribbean."
