DEAB fines Olympiacos coach Giorgos Bartzokas 50,000 euros

Olympiacos coach Giorgos Bartzokas has been handed a substantial fine of 50,000 euros by the Standing Committee for Combating Violence (DEAB) in Greece. The penalty was imposed following his conduct during the second game of the Stoiximan GBL finals series at the OAKA indoor arena.

The committee's decision invokes the provisions of a new sports law, enacted in 2025, which strengthens accountability for participants in sporting events. Bartzokas was penalized for "insulting with unspeakable phrases both the fans of Panathinaikos BC and the official present at that point, a supposed official/administrative executive of the host team, Savvas Aronis."

It is further pointed out that, based on the above provisions of the recent law 5224/2025, increased responsibility is established for owners, members of management bodies, coaches, and athletes in cases of insulting, threatening, and generally offensive behavior towards their honor and reputation within a sports facility during sports events.
