‘Dead’ Kuwaiti Man Suddenly Had Children - How He Fooled Authorities for Decades

Kuwaiti authorities have exposed a sophisticated, decades-long citizenship fraud after discovering a man had allegedly stolen the identity of a Kuwaiti citizen who died more than 17 years ago. The suspect obtained a civil ID under the deceased's name, living a false life for decades and even registering children under the stolen identity. The elaborate deception came to light following a confidential tip to the Nationality Investigation Department. Investigators believe the fraud was facilitated by a lack of integrated electronic data between government departments at the time. Official records confirmed the original citizen died in 1970, yet another individual was alive, using his name and holding Kuwaiti documents. The suspect, who confessed to holding another Gulf nationality, was arrested after forensic and medical experts determined his physical age did not match the official records. The examination indicated he was born in 1960, making him around 66, not the 86 years implied by the stolen identity. Key evidence included the original death certificate, the forensic age assessment, Gulf identification documents, and records linked to his children. Following the investigation, the suspect's citizenship was revoked, along with that of 20 dependents.
