Death penalty sought for man accused of killing Indian-origin owner and Bangladeshi immigrant in Tennessee

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Corey Houge, who is accused of two separate murders in Tennessee, including the killing of an Indian-origin grocery store owner and a Bangladeshi immigrant gas station worker.

Houge faces charges related to the shooting death of Shahed Rana Mohsin, 36, a Bangladeshi immigrant. Mohsin was reportedly shot during a robbery attempt at a gas station on August 23 while observing Tahajjud prayer. The charges against Houge include first-degree murder, robbery, and weapons offenses.

In a separate incident on August 20, Houge allegedly entered Ridgecrest Cellars and demanded money from employees. Despite the employees complying with the demand, Patel was shot and killed. Investigators identified Houge as a suspect using recovered video footage and vehicle information.

Authorities located Houge driving a vehicle identified as a suspect vehicle. When officers attempted to stop him, Houge fled at high speed, crashed his car, and then attempted to carjack a customer. He is now facing multiple charges in Madison County, including first-degree premeditated murder and especially aggravated robbery.
