Death toll from Bhotekoshi flood reaches 903

Nepal’s flood disaster has left 903 people dead and 4,247 unaccounted for, according to the latest government figures. The toll includes human remains recovered across several districts affected by flooding along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers.

Chitwan has recorded the most body recoveries, with 272, followed by Nawalparasi East with 207 and Nawalparasi West with 151. Authorities have also recovered bodies in Nuwakot, Gorkha, Dhading, Tanahun and Rasuwa. Fast-moving floodwaters carried victims and debris far downstream, complicating recovery efforts.

Nuwakot has reported 1,558 people missing, while Rasuwa has reported 865. The missing also include 933 people linked to a hydropower project, 592 foreign nationals and 127 Nepalis accompanying foreign tourists. Records list further missing people at sites including customs and immigration offices, Langtang National Park and a quarantine office.

Eighty-three security personnel remain unaccounted for: 45 from the Nepali Army, 25 from Nepal Police and 13 from the Armed Police Force. Authorities say 267 people were injured, with 156 discharged after treatment. Six specialised surgical teams have been sent to the worst-hit areas.

A force of 20,819 security personnel is supporting search, rescue and relief operations. Authorities say 10,451 people have been rescued, with 411 helicopter flights carried out so far. Unidentified bodies are being held at 21 hospitals while officials publish details through the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and Nepal Police disaster portals.
