Defense Presents 31 Pieces of Evidence to Challenge Accusation Against Former Governor Aguirre in Ayotzinapa Case

The defense team for Ángel Aguirre Rivero, former governor of Guerrero, has presented 31 pieces of evidence in an attempt to dismantle the Attorney General's Office's accusation against him in connection with the Ayotzinapa case. The ongoing hearing before control judge Mario Elizondo Martínez at the Altiplano Penal Justice Center includes the participation of 13 parents of the disappeared students.

Key to the defense's strategy are the testimonies of two former Aguirre administration officials: Jesús Martínez Garmelo, former Secretary of Government, and Felipe Martín Ornelas Rebollo, coordinator of Security and Air Transport. Both witnesses stated under oath that Aguirre Rivero was not present in Guerrero at the time he allegedly ordered the destruction of security camera footage from the Palacio de Justicia in Iguala on the night of September 26, 2014.

These testimonies aim to establish an alibi for Aguirre, directly contradicting the prosecution's claim that he ordered the tampering of evidence crucial to understanding the events of that night. The defense is meticulously building its case by presenting documents and witness accounts to create doubt about Aguirre's alleged involvement in obstructing the investigation into the disappearance of the 43 students.
