Dele Momodu Backs Osun Governor Adeleke, Urges Opposition Unity

Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in Nigeria's opposition politics, has declared his support for Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party in the upcoming Osun State governorship election. Momodu, who remains a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated on Tuesday that opposition parties must prioritize a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

I joined ADC on the basis that prominent members of opposition parties in Nigeria decided to form a broad coalition of forces against the APC cankerworm that has almost destroyed our economy, social cohesion, religious tolerance and democratic institutions and separation of powers.

Momodu explained his decision stems from a belief that opposition forces should have coalesced earlier. He had hoped for a broad coalition, noting that the ADC had initially presented candidates who placed second, third, and fourth in the 2023 presidential election. "I had prayed fervently against the demon, and clash, of voluptuous egos," he stated, expressing disappointment that the envisioned coalition did not materialize.

Despite the coalition's failure to form as planned, Momodu insists his hope for Nigerians to unite against the "APC menace" remains. He described the current political landscape in Osun State as a "theater of war" due to the APC's actions. "It would be foolhardy not to see that with the manner APC has turned Osun State into a theater of war, the only sensible strategy is for all opposition parties to align immediately and back the Accord Party candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke," he declared.
