Delhi building collapse live: 40 to 50 feared trapped at boys’ PG, seven rescued and three critical

A five-storey boys’ paying guest building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, leaving an estimated 40 to 50 students feared trapped under the rubble. Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Services, NDRF, Delhi Police, MCD, DDMA, Civil Defence and other agencies were working at the site.

Police said six or seven students had been rescued and taken to nearby hospitals. Three of them were admitted to the AIIMS trauma centre in critical condition. A police control-room call about the collapse reached South Campus Police Station at around 1:34 p.m.

Locals said the building was a boys’ paying guest accommodation known as “Hostel Daze.” An eyewitness told ANI that an adjacent building had also collapsed and that students in their rooms were trapped beneath the debris. The exact number of people missing would only be known after registration records were checked, the witness said.

Students in the area said most residents were likely inside because the collapse occurred on a Sunday. The eyewitness also reported severe injuries and said rescuers were struggling to extract people from the rubble.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the situation was being monitored and that the adjacent building had been evacuated. Home Minister Ashish Sood said rescue and relief operations were underway, adding: “The Delhi Fire Services team has reached the spot. Rescue and relief operations are underway, with our teams working on the ground to provide all necessary assistance.”
