Delon Shankar to Captain Fiji's U-19 Football Team

Rewa FC defender Delon Shankar will captain Fiji's Junior Bula Boys at the upcoming OFC U-19 Men’s Championship in Samoa. This regional tournament also serves as the Oceania qualifier for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, making Shankar's leadership crucial for the team's aspirations.

Nasinu FC midfielder Maikah Dau will serve as Shankar's assistant captain. The selection process involved over 200 players, with the final squad comprising 23 of the best talents. This rigorous selection highlights the commitment to fielding a competitive team for the international competition.

Shankar expressed his honor and pride in being chosen as captain, thanking the coaches for the opportunity. He stated his readiness to lead the team to victory and make their families and Fiji proud. The squad features four players from Bula FC and nine players based overseas, including one from Canada, two from New Zealand, and six from Australia, indicating a blend of local and international talent.

Fiji has been drawn into Group B alongside New Zealand, Tahiti, and Vanuatu. Their campaign begins with a match against Vanuatu on Wednesday. Coach Marika Rodu noted that nine players, including four from the Bula FC, will be experiencing international travel for the first time.
