Delta APC begins reconciliation drive for 2027 elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has launched a reconciliation initiative aimed at healing internal rifts and bolstering its grassroots support structure in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Unity was a central theme at a recent APC Delta North Stakeholders’ Meeting held in Asaba, where party leaders assessed their readiness for the upcoming polls.

Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, implored party leaders to actively engage with aspirants who did not win during the party's primaries, as well as other members who feel marginalized. He stressed that the APC requires the collective support of all members to achieve its political ambitions within the state. Onyeme called for setting aside personal differences to reconcile with disgruntled members and ensure everyone has a role in the party's campaign efforts.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts toward establishing state police, calling it a vital step for enhancing national security. Onyeme argued that the federal police force is insufficient to provide adequate security across Nigeria's vast size and population.

The meeting also featured the endorsement of President Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for second terms in 2027, a motion moved by Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu and seconded by Frank Esenwa. Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, also voiced support for state police, deeming it a significant advancement in the nation's security framework. Okowa noted that the concept had been discussed since 2000 but lacked implementation by previous administrations. He emphasized that state police should complement, not replace, the Nigeria Police Force, thereby improving community-level security responses.

Okowa further urged APC leaders to intensify reconciliation efforts and strengthen their engagement with voters leading up to 2027. He advised party members to move beyond mere political meetings and engage more directly with the electorate.
