Delta suspends commissioner indefinitely over gov’s aide assault

The Delta State Government has indefinitely suspended Reuben Izeze, the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), following allegations that he assaulted the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, also known as Temple. The suspension took immediate effect.

This administrative action is intended to facilitate an impartial investigation by security agencies into the alleged confrontation that occurred at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) in Effurun, Delta State. The state government stated that the suspension is necessary to ensure the investigation proceeds without interference and to uphold the principles of law and order.

The suspension is to enable the security agencies to carry out an unbiased investigation of allegations associating him with the assault on the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mr Simon Mudi, also known as Temple, at the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun, recently.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the government reiterated its commitment to public safety and the sanctity of human life. It stressed that public institutions and officials are not exempt from legal scrutiny, even when involved in alleged incidents. The statement noted that the suspension is an administrative measure to aid the investigation and does not predetermine guilt.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault are expected to be a key focus of the ongoing investigation. The state government has not specified the duration of the investigation or the potential consequences for Commissioner Izeze, who also represents the Ughelli South constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.
